As the world changes faster and faster, even large companies are realizing the need to "think like a startup" – or risk losing out to one. Managers in traditional companies make decisions with limited and often obsolete information, and employees can't leverage their deep experience with products and customers to maximum benefit. Instead of seeing our companies as machines, companies running Holacracy operate more like organisms, sensing and responding to their environment dynamically. Come see how decision-making can work in a distributed environment, without sacrificing the safety of hierarchy.

ITA Mentor Swarm

Thursday, August 8 2019

Seven groups of high school seniors will have ten minutes each to pitch their startup presentation to one of seven mentors. The mentors will provide feedback on the concepts and presentations. The mentors are chosen based on their experience in various industries.

The Information Technology Academy (ITA) is a pre-college initiative with the goal of increasing enrollment rates of diverse students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. ITA programs serve students in the communities of Madison, Lac du Flambeau and Oneida.

Through ITA, high school students build knowledge and skills with hands-on training, academic support, mentoring, leadership development, community service and internship opportunities. At the same time, the students’ communities benefit from greater access to technology and from the skills and experience gained by these future leaders.

Holacracy:
Structural Agility at all levels

Monday, June 3 2019

As the world gets more complex, organizations need to adapt to change faster now than ever before. Just as Agile is replacing outmoded systems of project management, Holacracy is poised to do the same for traditional systems of business management, the underlying structures of which date back thousands of years. In this talk, Jonathan Yankovich (former Partner at HolacracyOne) will provide an overview of Holacracy and some key concepts and processes that support the practice. You'll see how authority can be distributed safely without sacrificing organizational alignment and come away with some concrete practices that you can use to create an experience for your teams, and leave with more questions than you came in with.
